Toledo holds off Kent State, 30-20

KENT, Ohio (AP) — Logan Woodside threw for three touchdowns and 202 yards as Toledo held off Kent State’s second-half rally and won 30-20 on Tuesday night.

The Rockets were up 23-0 when Nick Holley’s 50-yard touchdown run put Kent State on the board with 8:25 left in the third quarter. After Kishon Wilcher answered with a 2-yard TD catch, the Golden Flashes scored 14-unanswered points to cut the difference to 10 with 13:15 left in the game.

Toledo forced two turnovers and a three-and-out on Kent State’s final three drives to squash any chance for a comeback.

Kareem Hunt ran for 141 yards on 18 carries, and Terry Swanson added 75 on the ground for the Rockets (6-3, 5-0 Mid-American). Woodside limped off the field with an apparent leg injury late in the third quarter and did not return.

Holley rushed for 95 yards on 12 carries for Kent State (1-8, 0-5).
