Bowling Green’s defense halts Akron, 27-10

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Andre Givens rushed for 101 yards — including a 46-yard touchdown — and the Bowling Green defense forced five turnovers to help the Falcons beat Akron 27-10 on Tuesday night.

Fred Coppet added 113 yards on 18 carries as Bowling Green (6-3, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) outgained Akron 219 to 94 on the ground.

Four of Akron’s turnovers came in the second half. Taylor Royster recovered a fumble in the end zone in the third quarter to give Bowling Green a 13-3 lead. Then on Akron’s ensuing possession, Nick Johnson intercepted a Kyle Pohl pass and Bowling Green put together an 11-play, 62-yard drive, ending in James Knapke’s touchdown pass to Roger Lewis.

Pohl was 31 of 62 for 304 yards for Akron (4-5, 2-3), but had three interceptions. Jawon Chisholm rushed for 65 yards and his 15-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter made it 20-10 with 9:07 left.
